Nijar is famous for its craft workshops and shops. There are many producers of ceramics here as well as 'jarapas' - rugs made from rags. There are also many other craft shops in the village supplying the needs of the tourist and the local population equally.

Cabo de Gata village is a small seaside village in the Cabo de Gata natural park, an area of outstanding beauty to the north of Almería city.

The salt lakes just outside the village are a gathering point for many birds and there are facilities here for bird watchers to observe them. This is a gathering ground for pink flamingos in the early spring when they can be seen in abundance.
