Mojácar is the major tourist resort in the north of the province and is split into two parts - the beach (playa) and the village (pueblo).

The village is some distance from the sea and perched high on a hill. As you approach the village it looks as though all the houses have been piled up on top of each other. However, when you get into the village it is one of the most picturesque and spectacular villages in Spain.

The beach area is where the majority of the hotels and tourist attractions are to be found. Everything here is fairly well spread out as Mojácar Playa is a long, narrow area which stretches all the way to Garrucha.

There is a very useful, frequent and cheap bus service which takes you from one end of the beach to the other via the village. Very handy for getting about the various local attractions.

Watch out for the Moors & Christians festival in June - well worth a visit.
