Illegal Cars in Spain

One of my biggest 'pet hates' is the amount of illegal cars on the road here in Spain. I am not talking about the local vehicles, rather the illegal foreign plated vehicles, mainly English that continue to run around with total disregard for the law and, indeed, for any other road user.
The law is that a foreign registered vehicle may be used on the roads in Spain for up to six months in any twelve month period. Outside that time it must either be out of the country or off the road. Many people think that they will never be caught out because it is difficult to prove whether the vehicle has been used continuously for more than six months. This is probably the case. However, these people either don't know or (more likely) don't care about the further conditions - namely that whilst being used on Spanish roads the foreign plated vehicle must be totally legal in it's country of registration. In other words in the case of English vehicles they must have Road Tax, Insurance and a valid MOT certificate if applicable.
Furthermore, the vehicle keeper must be registered with the DVLA at a bona fide address in the UK which is their habitual residence.
So . . . . .
Get them Registered . . . . Get them Tested . . . . Get them Insured
or
Get them off the road!
Some say that commercial vehicles like vans and trucks cannot be re-registered with Spanish plates. This may be so, but it doesn't excuse them from the law. They must still be legal in their country of registration and may only be used for six months in any twelve month period.
The Spanish police should be given the power to remove these vehicles from the road and have them crushed without any further consultation. They are a menace and the owners / users of such vehicles are irresponsible - particularly with regard to insurance. They are only interested in themselves and the potential consequences are of no importance to them.
